Sort of still. The problem taking their picture is that they lift their butts to blink their lights, so they always end up moving just a little bit during a long exposure.

So, here's what I know about these guys: The males fly around signalling. The females sit on the ground or on vegetation. Sometimes they signal back. Sometimes, a different, larger species of female firefly will trick the smaller males into coming in for a visit. Then she eats him.

This guy cooperated. It was harder than I thought to convince him / her to land, stay put, light up, and fumble around one-handed to get a pseud-macro shot with my 50mm lens that refused to focus.
